  • Avoid skin washing
  • Avoid using perfumed body soaps
  • Avoid wet heat treatments
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine and other stimulants
  • Avoid stimulating exercise
  • Avoid direct sunlight (depending on oils used)
  • Drink plenty of water, keep warm and relax!

Sophia offers 2 different types of massage.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy is an ancient therapeutic treatment dating as far back as Egyptian times. It was then rediscovered in the 1920’s by Rene Gattefosse a French chemist. It is widely used and recognised for its beneficial therapeutic properties, and can be used alongside orthodox medicine.

Essential oils are concentrated extracts from plants, herbs, flowers, leaves or roots and all of them have their own unique therapeutic properties which aim to promote good health in mind and body.

How do essential oils work?

They are inhaled and absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. They aim to balance the body’s systems and can bring about emotional responses which essentially enable us to feel calm, refreshed, comforted, energised depending upon the oils that the therapist has chosen for the individual client.

Initial consultation

After an initial consultation has been carried out Sophia will choose a blend of essential oils and dilute them into a carrier (base) oil prior to the massage. A variety of massage techniques are used to maximise the benefits the client will get to all body systems.

Swedish Massage

Per Henrik Ling, from Sweden, developed his own system of massage movements in the 1800’s.

The Swedish massage system uses a variety of movements such as (Effleurage, Kneading,  Tapotement,  friction, petrissage) which work together to relax tired and aching muscles and encourages blood and lymph flow and enhances skin tone.

Initial Consulation

Every client is asked to complete  a confidential health questionnaire  prior to a massage, which can be downloaded from the link on the left of this page.

The massage treatment is conducted in a beautiful, relaxing room, elegantly lit with luxurious warmed towels for each client.

Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional therapy is the science of proper diet, lifestyle strategies and therapeutic nutrient intervention to correct nutritional insufficiencies, promote optimal health, and prevent, manage, or correct medical problems.

Complimentary nutritional therapy optimises nutritional health in order to enhance medical care and treatment.
